Toyota GR Supra A90 coding
The GR Supra (A90, A91, chassis J29) is built by BMW alongside the Z4 and uses BMW's G-series electronics, so it is coded with E-Sys like a BMW.
What you need
- An ENET cable (OBD to Ethernet) and a Windows laptop. See ENET or ICOM.
- E-Sys and PSdZData new enough for your car's software level (I-step). In E-Sys the Supra is listed under the J29 series (data folder J001). See PSdZData.
- A battery charger on the car while you code.
Before you start
- Back up first. Save the vehicle order and every module's coding before the first change.
- Software level matters. After a Toyota or BMW software update a setting can move, change or disappear, and later cars may use BMW-signed coding in some modules. See NCD 2.0 and secure coding.
- Not every change works on every car. Owners report that some changes do nothing on some software levels. Change one module at a time and check the result before the next.
Popular Supra codings
| Change | Where | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Seatbelt chime shorter or off | Airbag module | A safety warning: a shorter chime is the safer choice. |
| Start-stop remembers your last choice | Engine (DME), body module | Software dependent. |
| Exhaust valve behaviour (cars with the active exhaust) | Engine (DME) | Check local noise rules. |
| Fold mirrors when locking | Body module | Also: unfold when unlocking. |
| Open and close windows with the key | Body module | Hold the key button. |
| Comfort turn signal flashes | Body module | |
| Welcome and coming-home lights | Body module | |
| Lock and unlock confirmation (beep, flash) | Body module | |
| Legal disclaimer at start | Head unit | |
| Sport displays in the central display | Head unit | Where the head unit has them. |
| Video while driving | Head unit | For passengers only: the driver must not watch. Illegal in many countries while driving. |
| Messages and pop-ups in the instrument cluster | Instrument cluster | Software dependent. |
The exact module and setting name differ between Supra software levels, so this list gives the area, not a byte or value. E-Sys MAX shows the settings of your own car's modules in English, so you see what your car really has.
How to code a Supra with E-Sys
- Connect (Connection via VIN), then in Expert Mode > Coding: Read the vehicle order, Activate FA and Read SVT.
- Select the module's CAFD and press Read Coding Data.
- Right-click the .ncd file under the CAFD and choose Edit FDL, change the setting and save.
- Select the CAFD and press Code.

Questions
Is coding a Supra different from coding a BMW?
No. The Supra uses BMW's G-series modules, so E-Sys, PSdZData and the steps are the same. Some Supra modules have their own settings, which E-Sys MAX names like any other.
Does this work on the 4-cylinder Supra too?
Yes, the same modules are coded. Engine settings differ between the 4- and 6-cylinder engines.
Can a Toyota dealer undo my coding?
A software update at the dealer can code the car again. Keep your coding history so you can put your changes back.
