E-Sys Launcher Premium not working? Why, and what to use now

Why it stopped working

E-Sys Launcher Premium was a free launcher for BMW E-Sys, made by another developer (E-Sys MAX has no connection with it). Its last widely shared version is 2.8.2. Forum users report that the free 2.8.2 token was valid only until 30 December 2018, and that a later edition's token ran out in 2020. Since then, the free version has not been updated for current E-Sys versions such as 22.06, 24.06 and 25.10.

So if the launcher shows a token message, starts E-Sys without the coding you expect, or does not start it at all, the cause is usually not your PC: the launcher is simply out of date.

Signs you are on the old launcher

A message that the token has expired or is not valid.
It was made for E-Sys 3.x and does not find E-Sys 22.06 or newer.
Tips you find for it tell you to change the PC's date or to use a "rearm" tool. Do not: it breaks other programs and certificates and can stop working at any time.

Do not download "fixed" or cracked launchers

Search results for a free E-Sys launcher are full of copied pages with download links. A program from such a site runs on the same PC you plug into your car, with access to its files. If a launcher is not from its maker's own website, do not run it.

What to use now

You have two honest choices:

Start E-Sys without a launcher and set memory, PSdZData and the connection by hand. It works, but the common start problems are yours to solve (see what a launcher sets up).
Use a current launcher. E-Sys MAX starts every E-Sys from 22.06 to 25.x with the newest PSdZData, on Windows 10 and 11. It is updated often, and every update is signed.

Switching to E-Sys MAX

Keep your E-Sys and PSdZData: nothing needs to be installed again.
Download E-Sys MAX and install it. The old launcher can stay on the PC or be removed; they do not share files.
E-Sys MAX finds every E-Sys version by itself. Pick one, check the PSdZData folder, and run the car connection check.
Press play: E-Sys opens with setting names in English, ready-made changes, a backup before every write and coding history.

Can E-Sys Launcher Premium 2.8.2 still be made to work?

Forum users report its free token ended in 2018. The tricks passed around for it (changing the PC date, rearm tools) are unreliable and can damage other software. A current launcher is the safer way.

Is E-Sys MAX the same as E-Sys Launcher Premium or Pro?

No. E-Sys MAX is a separate launcher from a different maker, with its own setting names, backups and updates.
