BMW service reset: oil, brakes, brake fluid
See what your BMW's service display says is left and when it is due, then reset the item you serviced, from the E-Sys MAX launcher.
What the service display counts
F and G-series BMWs plan their own servicing (Condition Based Service, CBS). Each item has a share left and, for some, a due date: engine oil, front and rear brake pads, brake fluid, the vehicle check, and depending on the car spark plugs, the microfilter or the inspection. After the work you reset the item, so the car starts counting again from 100 %.
Service reset in E-Sys MAX (beta)

- Connect the car with an ENET cable, a battery charger on and the ignition on. Close E-Sys (the reset talks to the car itself).
- In the E-Sys MAX launcher press Service on Home. It finds the car and reads the service items.
- Each item shows its share left and its due date, coloured by how soon it is due.
- Press Reset next to the item you serviced and confirm. E-Sys MAX checks it is still the same car first.
The reset goes to the module that keeps the item: the engine computer for the oil, the stability control for the brake pads, the instrument cluster for the rest. A reset sent only to the cluster would be overwritten by the module that owns the item.
What you need
- E-Sys MAX on a Windows 10 or 11 PC.
- BMW EDIABAS on the same PC. It comes with BMW's standard tools. E-Sys MAX uses its job files to talk to the modules; the launcher tells you when it is missing.
- An ENET cable and a battery charger.
Good to know
- Brake pads: the car may refuse a reset while its wear sensor still reports worn pads. Replace the pads (and the sensor when it was worn through), then reset.
- Inspection dates (such as a legal road-worthiness test) are shown, not reset.
- Rear brake pads on some cars are kept in another module: the window says so instead of showing a number.
- Service reset is in beta. On a test F10 the engine oil and the vehicle check were reset and read back at 100 %.
A new battery needs its own step: see register a new battery.
Questions
Does service reset need E-Sys?
No. Service reset runs from the E-Sys MAX launcher through EDIABAS; close E-Sys while you use it, because both cannot talk to the car at the same time.
Which cars does it work with?
F and G-series BMWs with Condition Based Service. The window lists the items your car's modules report.
Can I set the oil to 100 % without changing the oil?
The reset only tells the car the work was done. Reset an item after you serviced it.
Service reset, coding and fault scan in one tool
E-Sys MAX adds English names, ready-made changes, backups, a fault scan and service reset to your E-Sys.
