BMW E-Sys setting names by model
Newer BMW data shows most coding settings in the FDL-Editor as a dot. E-Sys MAX puts the name back. Here is how much of each model is named today.
Why settings show as a dot
In E-Sys, every module's coding is a CAFD with hundreds or thousands of settings. Older PSdZData packs carried a name for each setting. Newer packs, the ones G-series cars need, leave the names out, so the FDL-Editor shows a dot instead of a name and you cannot tell what you are changing.
E-Sys MAX shows the names right inside E-Sys: 85,000+ coding settings named across 360+ modules, with a plain-English line on what most of them do. The names come from BMW data, from cheat sheets and from E-Sys MAX users who record the settings of their own cars. New names arrive by themselves, without an update.

Models grouped as BMW's data groups them; a single car has fewer modules than the whole model line, so your own car can be higher or lower. Not every setting is useful to change: many are calibration values that should stay as they are, and E-Sys MAX marks those.
What a name looks like in E-Sys
Instead of a dot you see the setting's name, its value in English and one line on what it does, for example C_ACC_Reaktion_Kreisverkehr: "Switches the ACC reaction at roundabouts on or off". Technical values carry a warning so nobody changes them by accident. The full feature list shows the rest: ready-made changes for your car, the vehicle order helper, backups and coding history.
Help name your car
Missing names for your car? In E-Sys MAX, Help improve names sends the names your PC has that we do not, and which of your modules still lack names (never your coding). Recorded videos or screenshots of a module's settings fill a whole module at once. Names you send come back to every user in the next names update.
Questions
Why does E-Sys show a dot instead of the setting name?
Newer PSdZData packs leave the setting names out of the CAFD files. E-Sys itself still works, but the FDL-Editor has no name to show. E-Sys MAX adds the names back inside E-Sys.
Do I need old PSdZData to see names?
No. E-Sys MAX shows the names with any PSdZData, including the newest packs your G-series car needs.
How do new names reach me?
By themselves. When E-Sys MAX starts with internet it picks up the newest names; no update to install. Paid licences keep a full copy for offline use.
Are the names from BMW?
Many are BMW's own names from older data; others were read from the modules' settings by E-Sys MAX users. Names taken from a similar module are shown in italics so you can tell them apart.
